Brendan Fraser, Rachael Weisz Finally Returning For ‘Mummy 4’

Published

on

Brendan Fraser and Rachael Weisz are finally returning for the Mummy film that fans have been anticipating.

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett revealed that both actors are reuniting for ‘The Mummy 4, which they described as “really, really beautiful and scary and sweeping, and awesome”.

The duo, known for their films ‘Scream’ (2022) and ‘Scream 6’ (2023), said it was their longtime producer, William Sherrick, who got them the film.

Bettinelli-Olpin said film writer, Dave Coggeshall’s script “has all the heart and the character that you could hope for”. “I don’t think Brendan and Rachael are getting involved unless they love that script, and what they read. I think they really liked it. And it’s a good script. It’s gonna be fun to make.”

Fraser and Weisz played the roles of Nick O’Connell and Evelyn ‘Evie’ Canahan (later O’Connell) in the first ‘The Mummy’ (1999), and returned for 2001’s ‘The Mummy Returns’, but Weisz did not take part in 2008’s threequel ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’. Maria Bello replaced her in the role of Evelyn.

Variety reported that Fraser told the Associated Press in 2025 that he had been waiting 20 years to make whatever the story is for ‘The Mummy 4’.

“The third one was a model of … how can I say this to the AP reporter? NBC had the rights to broadcast the Olympics that year,” Fraser said at the time. “So, they put two together, and we went to China. Working in Shanghai was an incredible experience. I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck, and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”

‘The Mummy 4’ is set for wide theatrical release on May 19, 2028, from Universal Pictures.

Talentless Artists Use ‘Afrobeats’ To Hide Their Lack Of Skill – Ruggedman

Published

on

Veteran rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has criticised the use of “Afrobeats” as a catchall term for all African music, calling it misleading.

In a recent interview with Day Genius, the rapper argued that the term is often used to group artistes who lack real talent and rely only on catchy beats.

Ruggedman expressed his dislike for the “Afrobeats” tag, noting that it was a mistake from the beginning to put every sound from the continent under one umbrella.
“For me, Afrobeats with an ‘S’ is a name talentless Nigerians hide behind. All you need to make a hit is just a good beat and street slang. Then you repeat it many times and spend money to promote it,” he said.

The rapper also claimed that many artists in this category struggle with live performances and freestyling because they depend too much on autotune and studio effects.

He noted that the trend of tagging every African song as Afrobeats started in the UK.
Ruggedman added that when he first complained about the name, people accused him of jealousy, but he insists it misrepresents the diversity of African music.
